Public education is our greatest responsibility — and our greatest opportunity to shape a better future for every child

A passionate advocate for public education

Nithin Iyengar is a longtime Walnut Creek resident, former high school educator, and community leader passionate about ensuring every student in the Acalanes Union High School District is prepared to thrive in college, career, and life.

A proud public-school parent, he is running for the Acalanes Union High School District Board to bring thoughtful, experienced leadership focused on academic excellence, fiscal stewardship, community engagement, and preparing all students for a rapidly changing world.

Leadership and Service in our Schools

Nithin was twice elected to the Walnut Creek School District Governing Board (2018 and 2022), where he championed strong fiscal stewardship, student and teacher well-being, and excellent outcomes for all students. During his tenure, he was proud to work alongside his fellow Board members and district staff to lead ongoing improvements in student achievement, an effective response and re-opening after the pandemic, successful collaborations with labor partners, and an exemplary governing team.

A Family Rooted in Walnut Creek

Nithin and his family are deeply committed to the Walnut Creek community and the Buena Vista neighborhood. Both of his children attend Walnut Creek public schools — one at Las Lomas High School and the other at Walnut Creek Intermediate. His incredible wife is the proud Librarian and Media Specialist at Buena Vista Elementary School in Walnut Creek School District.

From the Classroom to System Leadership

Nithin began his career as a high school math teacher at Pittsburg High School, where he taught every level of mathematics from Algebra to AP Calculus BC. He remains most proud of his students — particularly those in his AP Calculus classes, who outperformed the national average with a 70% pass rate and an average score of 3.3.

Over the past two decades, he has worked to strengthen public education across classrooms, districts, and national organizations. He has served in senior leadership roles in the School District of Philadelphia and Oakland Unified School District.

Professional Experience and National K-12 Leadership

Nithin currently serves as Managing Director of the Give Forward Foundation, a Bay Area philanthropy committed to improving public education for students living in under-resourced communities across the Bay Area. Previously, he was a senior leader and Partner at The Bridgespan Group, where he advised school districts, foundations, and nonprofits nationwide on strategies to expand opportunity, improve teaching and learning, and promote equity.

Nationally, Nithin serves on the Boards of New Teacher Center, Alder Graduate School of Education, and One World Network of Schools — organizations dedicated to supporting educators and improving student outcomes across the U.S. and globally.
